Week of October 15, 2013

Math:  We will be using the math workshop format the rest of this week. Math workshop includes 4 station rotations: math fact practice, small group instruction with me, IXL/Khan instruction, and independent work time.  We will review measuring with a protractor, learn how to use a compass, and problem solve.

Keep practicing math facts & IXL skills! 

Writing: Students will be learning how to write leads to their personal narratives and will be typing their final drafts on GoogleDocs by the end of this week. Early next week we will then revise/edit the typed versions. 

Treasures/Novels:  I will be modeling reading comprehension strategies, such as using your inner voice/sticky notes to log their thinking. Students will be using their historical fiction books to practice independently, as well as non-fiction books on the human body and National Geographic. Students should be reading their historical fiction book each night. 

Social Studies: We will read the final sections of chapter 11. Students can anticipate a test on Monday next week. They can use the History Alive Tutorial link on the right  helpful links section to study. We will be reviewing on Weds/Thurs.
